Verify a mark

Check it on the register before you rely on it

Every mark we issue is published with its scope, its dates and its current standing. Only positive outcomes are published, so an entry on the register is the whole test: if the mark is held, it is there.

What a claim must state

Every holder is issued with claim wording and keeps to it. A correct claim carries all six of these.

  • The full outcome name, including Conditional where that is what was reached
  • The legal entity assessed, which can differ from the entity you are dealing with
  • The scope assessed. An Operational outcome speaks to operational delivery alone, and says nothing about cyber delivery
  • The expiry date
  • That improvement actions are outstanding, wherever a Conditional outcome is claimed
  • That no site visit was made, wherever a Declared outcome is claimed

Scores stay confidential

Scores are confidential to the organisation assessed. The register shows the outcome and the confidence level. Percentages, maturity levels and section breakdowns stay off it, and a holder keeps them out of any claim. Anyone showing you a score has departed from their claim wording.

What a Westmark mark is, and its limits

A Westmark outcome is Westmark's own judgement, formed on evidence examined within a defined scope, on a sample, at a point in time. Its standing ends there, and a holder's claim has to respect that.

Separate from

  • Certification, accreditation or approval by government, the Ministry of Defence, the Security Industry Authority, the Home Office, the National Cyber Security Centre or a police force
  • Compliance with the Secure by Design policy, DEFCON 658, Defence Standard 05-138 or the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025
  • Cyber Essentials, ISO/IEC 27001 and Facility Security Clearance (formerly List X)

How a wrong claim is handled

  • Westmark requires correction of a wrong claim within ten working days
  • Where the correction is refused, the outcome is withdrawn and the register shows it as withdrawn
  • Seen a claim that looks wrong? Send us what you were shown and where. We check it and come back to you. hello@westmarkassurance.co.uk
